I know, I know: We’ve all had enough polling results for the week. But seriously, we DID ask you, nearly a year into the public launch of our community experiment, how are we doing? And you delivered with real candor.
You told us about yourselves, what motivates you as it relates to your work lives, and what motivates you to engage with Optionality. We learned a lot, and as promised, two members have had their membership upgraded to premium, and one premium membership has been renewed, as part of our random drawing from survey respondents.
So, you may be wondering, what did you learn about us? Based on the survey responses: a lot!
Our current user is a VERY seasoned working woman:
Most respondents are GenXers with 20+ years of work experience.
Who loves her work independence
78% of respondents are consultants, coaches, start-up founders, small business owners, and/or self-employed. And 81% want to be independent in their future work lives.
This is mirrored in the content areas of most interest.
The top content topics are entrepreneurship, examples of how people pursued their independent career path, and tactics for managing it. After that, members want tech and career tactics for managing this path.
Relationships, Relationships, Relationships
Content is important, but Connections are tantamount. It’s the perceived quality of the community that members seem to really value. You know what they say: Brilliant attracts brilliant. Tangible benefits like a job board or access to additional resources are secondary in importance to opportunities to connect substantially with others who have relevant experiences.
Premium members want more opportunities to connect via online working groups. And all members would like more opportunities to meet-up in person.
Members indicated the most interest in these new potential benefits:
Master classes
Meet-ups
More Premium group interactions. (e.g. weekly thematic office hours)
You all have been critical partners as we forge our plan for 2025. As we start to plan our second year in existence, we will be keeping you posted on additional opportunities and new benefits. If there’s more you wanted to share with us about Optionality, your experiences, and your expectations, please don’t be shy. Comments are open.
Until soon,
Jory + Elisa
I wonder who is this referring to: "One current user is a VERY seasoned working woman." Thank you for the update.
