To close out June and our theme of contingency planning, we thought it would be helpful to take this out of realm of the ways you can help yourself and explore how you can get help from your company, your state, and the federal government. We needed to Human Resource pros to help us.
I sat down with Maria (Maite) Delgado and Laurie Halsey, each of whom has overseen HR administration for 20+ years. Maria took on HR as part of administering ever-larger medical offices and staffs. Laurie started out in tech, worked in a few different industries before (coincidentally) also landing in the medical sector, moving back and forth from small to very large organizations.
We covered the following questions in our conversations:
What basics do most employers offer…as required by law or simply industry-standard?
What benefits do employees rarely take advantage of? How do confidential employee assistance programs work?
How did COVID lockdown-related working arrangements change things for caregivers and others? Is there attrition now as standards seem to change?
Federal vs. state offerings, outside employment?
What are the protections for people who leverage various leave policies? How do companies skirt those protections?
Did you know about all of these programs? Have you used them? Have you felt penalized by it? Super curious to hear about your personal experiences!
